Suisun City Quality of Life

Suisun City has something for everyone’s interests; outdoor enthusiasts, the casual or serious exerciser, or those just looking for a great way to spend the weekend.

Don’t take our word for it: hear what some of the business owners and their employees have to say about Suisun City’s excellent quality of life, making it a great place to work.  Just click here!

Suisun has much to offer potential businesses: an ideal location off major highways, a government committed to bolstering the local economy, a variety of housing choices, good public schools, and a community with spirit that has transformed itself from what was twenty years ago termed “the worst place to live in the Bay Area” by the San Francisco Chronicle into an attractive location to live, work and play.

Experience Nature
Boating enthusiasts can take advantage of the local amities provided by the largest contiguous brackish water marsh on the west coast of North America, the Suisun Marsh.  Enjoy an afternoon kayaking through the marsh or take a leisurely ride on the California Sunset.  Well maintained public boat launch facilities offer an excellent opportunity to spend the day on the water while avoiding the congestion of other bay area facilities.

While out on the water take the time to take in all the widlife that surrounds you.  The Suisun Marsh is a favorite spot for bird watchers. In January 2007 an Arctic Snowy Owl made an unexpected appearance demonstrating the diversity of wildlife found within the 116,000 acres of preserved land.  Take some time to visit the newly constructed visitor center at Rush Ranch located within the Suisun Marsh.  The historic ranch offers hiking, camping, and educational experiences about ranch life and the wildlife within the marsh.  Just a little further down the road is Grizzly Island where you may be able to spot the Tule Elk that make Suisun Marsh their home.

Recreational Activities
Local citizens and visitors are able to enjoy a wide variety of recreational and community activities ranging from dance to tai chi classes offered through the Recreation Department, which builds healthy living for both the youth and adults of the community.

During the summer join us for our weekly two-mile Health Walk and explore the beautiful waterfront promenade.  Once you have taken in everything the Waterfront has to offer, take advantage of the recently finished bike path to explore the rest of the city and neighboring communities.  For those who are a little more outgoing, the Suisun Bike Trail also provides connections with outlying cities such as Napa and Davis with connections to the Central County Bikeway. Outdoor Weekend Entertainment
The Suisun Waterfront is a hub of activity on many weekends. Free concerts put on by the city are a great way to enjoy Friday evenings and relax at the end of the work week. Or, bring the family down on Saturday evenings to enjoy a free movie.  Then to round out the weekend, Sunday offers jazz under the afternoon sun.  Visit our events page for up-to-date listings.

Arts and Entertainment
Suisun City’s arts community is alive and flourishing.  At the newly opened Lawler House Gallery, set in the historic Lawler House, the talents of local artists are on display.  Throughout the year the gallery introduces new works and shows.  For up-to-date information about the gallery and shows being displayed check out Things-To-Do in Suisun City.

For music and entertainment check out the soon to open Dimitri’s Jazz Lounge, or take in a show presented by Solano Community College Youth Theatre at the Harbor Theater.
